Well its good for me that I don’t live at home any more because I’ve just started what will end up being a full sleeve. As I take more photos and as the tattoo takes form I’ll be sure to post new pics.

I’ve been into computers since I was about 7 or 8 and I am somewhat a self-professed Geek. I remember at a very early age being interested in how electrical components worked and it wasnt long before I started taking things apart and putting them back together, I must confess often the putting things back together didn’t always work out as planned.

A friend at Primary School (1984 ish) had two computer systems at home, a BBC Micro (Built by Acorn Computers) and an early Macintosh system. Having a home computer back in those days was fairly rare and thinking back on it, having two systems like that was almost unheard of. I forget now which games we played on the systems but I do remember the green screens and having to punch in commands to make the system operate, I of course found this nothing less than fascinating.

In 1985 my parents purchased (for my brother and I) a brand spanking new Amstrad CPC6128 computer system with a 3″ floppy disk drive which was very modern compared to previous models which used tape drives. I think it was at this point that something in my brain clicked and after a bit of reading I found out how to access the code on the disks and began to play around with the code to give my self extra lives.

My next computer system (also funded by Mum and Dad) was a DX4 100 with 32mb of memory (an extreme amount of memory back in those days) and a 100 mb hard drive. I think it was at this point that I was exposed to Microsoft’s 3.1 DOS operating system and harnessed the power of the command line. Over the next couple of years I would play, break, fix, and upgrade this machine with larger drives and a modem to so I could connect to bulletin boards. I could go on for hours and hours about the different CPU architectures and Operating Systems I’ve known and come to love and hate over the years but I wont, I think the point to this post is really just to say that from a very young age, computers and technology overall have been a huge part of my life.

Now the description field on my new blog is ” Not Your Typical IT Geek ” I’ve been told many times over the years that I don’t look like someone who’s into Computers, truth be told I probably look more like a road worker or a builder, God knows I certainly have the builders crack sorted.

This blog is not going to be an ongoing series of posts about why I’m not your typical Geek, but instead just a place for me to post more personal every day content which I’m not able to post on my Virtualization/Storage blog.

However the next post will cover the “Inked” part of the site name, and covers something that you don’t see or associate with your stereo typical geek.
